Okura to open in Macau

Macau is set to get its first Japanese-managed luxury hotel chain, courtesy of the Galaxy Entertainment Group: the Hotel Okura will open in September 2009 in the first phase of the Galaxy Mega Resort in Cotai.

The 400-room hotel Hotel Okura Macau will be aimed at the high end of the fast-growing market for Japanese visitors to Macau. “Okura offers every modern amenity and high-quality service, yet it retains an Asian heart and soul,” Francis Lui, vice chairman of Galaxy, announced today. “This is particularly attractive to the growing number of Japanese and Korean visitors to Macau.”

Lui cited official statistics showing that over the past three years visitors to Macau from Japan have increased by over 120%, and from South Korea by over 200%.

Hotel Okura Macau will stand 26 floors above ground with one floor below ground, connected directly to the casino. It will have large-scale meeting and function areas, a spa, fitness center and one of the world’s largest wave pools on its own sandy beach in lush, landscaped surroundings. Fine dining choices will be laid out in style to deliver an extraordinary gastronomic affair.

Okura opened its first hotel in Tokyo in 1962. Today, its has 24 member hotels in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
