Portuguese party onIf you are in Macau from October 19-21, be sure to visit the Taipa House museums at dusk. You'll find local Portuguese families gathered together here to enjoy their annual autumn festival under the stars. The festival, known as "Lusofonia" traditionally begins in the afternoon of the first day with both lion and folk dances. Children also put on their own song and dance performances while the big kids jam on their instruments late into the evening. Colorful stalls with food, drinks and arts and crafts from different Portuguese-speaking countries offer a glimpse of the life and culture of places like Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Goa, Damao, Diu, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, the islands of Sao Tome and Principa and East Timor. Set against the backdrop of five beautifully restored old Macanese residences, the festival is a wonderful way for families and friends to get together each year.
