Clam up at Restaurante LitoralIf the cozy Restaurante Litoral is not the best Macanese restaurant in Macau, it certainly is right up near the top of the list. Macau-born Manuela Ferreira, who opened Litoral in 1995 with her husband, was awarded a Medal of Honor by the Macau SAR government for her contribution to tourism. “We use the wok a lot, and Portuguese and Chinese ingredients,” Ms. Ferreira says of the cuisine she serves, which is often made from recipes passed down through generations in her family. “I make many of the ingredients for the food myself, like shrimp paste. I don’t use commercially prepared ingredients. If I want to continue to make traditional Macanese food, I have to do that.” The results, as evidenced in mouth-watering dishes like stuffed squid, clams in garlic sauce, Macanese style duck rice and creamy serradura, make Litoral a favorite among Macau’s local community as well as visitors.
