Clube Militar

The graceful old colonial building housing the Clube Militar is more than an architectural monument to Macau’s colonial past, it also houses a popular restaurant serving fine Portuguese and Macanese cuisine. An outstanding feature is steak with mushroom sauce and melt-in-your-mouth bacalhau a bras, together with a wide range of Portuguese wine.

Established in 1870 by a group of army officers, the club became the nucleus of culture and social life for Macanese society for many decades. Today it welcomes the public in an elegantly restored building that has become an old favorite among local residents and a landmark for visitors.

The club’s president put the club’s philosophy in his own words: “It’s good to know people from abroad. They come for the culture of Portugal and then they want to know more about Macau.” When they come to lunch or dinner at the Clube Militar, they take away an experience that combines fine dining with a glimpse of the Old Macau.
